The primary agent of socialization is Family, the family central role during the development stage is to show love, and to put the families norms, values, and beliefs on the child, as the child grows older he or she will then take what their family has taught them their whole life’s and apply them to their own life, as well as their own family when they are older (Holm 297-314).  Although family has a strong influence on children at first, as they grow older they become a member of society, which at that point they have the opportunity to listen and take in consideration on other ideas, beliefs, religion, and moral values (Henslin).
School is the secondary agent of socialization, children are within the education system for many years, and for this reason school has a major effect on the child ("Agents of Human Socialization, The Impact of School").  Teachers and children teach children how to act, it can start at the young age of three or four if the child went to pre-school, but if not each child will experience this when they enter kindergarten.  Teachers will show children how to act without even realizing it, this is done when something happens and he or she reacts in a positive way to the problem.  Another way is telling the children; what is wrong, what is right, what is okay, and not okay.  Children teach other children by play.  If a group of children is playing, then another child joins, and does something that they think is correct but the rest of the group doesn’t think that, that child will not be able to play within that group any longer.
